METAL GEAR SOLID GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS

このゲームのシリーズはひとつもやったことがないけれど、伊藤氏がメタルギアを書くというのはつまり、戦士がかつて馴染んだ戦場に戻るということと同義だと思うので、読んでおきたかった。やっと見つけた『馬車馬大作戦』は、大きくて重そうだったのであまぞぬに頼もうかな。

悲恋の詩人ダウスン (集英社新書 445F)

悲恋とデカダンの極みのようにいわれる英国の詩人アーネスト・ダウスン。彼の作品では、学生時代に学んだ下記の詩が印象に深いが、キーツやランボーにくらべるとものすごく知名度が低いようで、ずっと評伝を見たことがなかった。書き手が南條氏なのも嬉しい。彼が訳した詩集も岩波から出ているので読もう。

ほかにも、『虎よ!虎よ!』『病める薔薇』や『老水夫行』など、英文学の先生が朗読する詩の流れるような韻の美しさに聞きほれたものだ。自分ではあんなふうに強弱をきちんとつけて読めないので、字面を追うしかないのだが。

名作「風とともに去りぬ」のタイトルは、上記のダウスンの詩の「gone with the wind」から取られている。個人的に思い出深い一節は「madder music and stronger wine」。これで検索してみたら、英語の評伝『Madder Music, Stronger Wine: The Life of Ernest Dowson, Poet and Decadent 』が引っ掛かってきた。日本ではマイナーだけれど、むこうではいろいろ出ているらしい。

息子に頼まれた本。「クラスメイトが読んでいて、面白そうだった」とか。

昨夜は、読了した『ジェネラル・ルージュの凱旋』について学校の読書ノートにまとめながら、楽しそうに「田口先生が」「速水部長が」と云っていた。シリーズを通してキャラ立ちがくっきりした話なので、子供にも読みやすいのだろう。

作中で厚労省官僚・白鳥が見せる「土砂崩れみたいなウインク」ってどんなんだろうというので、「こんなんにちがいない」とやってみせたらずいぶん受けていた。

今朝は「早川さんが読もうとしてた『スズミヤハルヒのなんたら』ってあるじゃん？　あれ、どんな話なの？」と尋ねてきた。「SFらしいよ」とのみ回答。ちゃんと読んだことないのでわかりませんw
